Beneficiaries and Allocations International Rescue & Relief Around the World Humanitarian Assistance Around the World In 58 countries around the world, we are there providing humanitarian assistance to Jews in need. We are at the forefront of a major effort to provide food boxes to indigent elderly Jews living in the Former Soviet Union (FSU) and Eastern Europe. Last year, volunteers delivered small boxes with rice, oil, sardines, flour, sugar, tea, etc. to more than 200,000 recipients. Most of these elderly are living on pensions of $20-$40 per month. This is supposed to pay for their rent, heat, food and medical care. Some of them are Holocaust survivors. Many simply do not have enough to eat. The food boxes lower malnutrition and raise the spirits of those in need. If you are interested, you are welcome to come into the Federation office and see an actual food box like the ones we distribute. Or even better you can travel with us to the FSU and deliver some food boxes yourself! In Latin America we provide a wide range of humanitarian assistance and community building programs. These include a pharmacy in Havana, vocational training for developmentally disabled in Brazil, a nursing home in Mexico, seminars for social workers in Chile and training for Jewish educators in Uruguay. Most of our efforts in Africa are directed at Jewish populations in Muslim countries. From health services in Morocco and two homes for the aged in Tunisia to welfare payments in Yemen and burial assistance in Egypt, we are there making a difference in the lives of Jews who are in need. The programs are too numerous to list and the impact too great for a simple brochure to convey. Know that these funds support programs that assist Jews in need in every corner of the world. The Federation community works with hundreds of local, national and international institutions to rescue Jews and non-Jews. To provide emergency relief to everyone who needs it. With your help, Federation can do more.
